Lyndon Area Youth Hockey Association

2017-18 LAYHA Registration

Welcome from Layha President

Hello LAYHA Families!

I hope everyone had a great Summer!

As we are all getting ready to head back to school and get back into our routine, it is also time for LAYHA Registration.  I know it may seem crazy to sign up for hockey now when most of the fall sports are just getting started, but registration in August/September allows the board, coaches, and other volunteers to plan for another excellent season of hockey.

As many of you know, LAYHA is an organization designed to develop and improve the ice hockey skills of the boys and girls who are its players, and we want to provide an opportunity for the youth of our community area who wants to learn the game of hockey.  We are devoted to promoting good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive atmosphere in which to learn.

There are a couple of changes in regards to registration this year that I wanted to make you aware of:

The Board is requesting a deposit at the time of registration.  You will then have options for payment to pay the remainder registration fee.  We have extended the payment plan options through the end of January in hopes that the extended time to pay will lessen any financial burden on our LAYHA families.

Secondly, at the conclusion of last year’s season, we requested all LAYHA families to complete a survey about our 2016/2017 season.  One topic of interest was fundraising, and whether parents would prefer to fundraise to keep costs down or to pay more upfront.  The fundraising responses split down the middle!  Our LAYHA families needed flexible fundraising options.

The Board agreed that we needed to develop a solution that would be financially feasible for LAYHA and more importantly to our families.  For those involved with LAYHA for many years and to our newcomers, LAYHA is dependent on fundraising dollars, thousands of dollars, to sustain the association.

To balance the need to fundraise, to provide more fundraising options, and realistically ask our busy LAYHA families to help raise the necessary funds to run our program, the Board approved a new fundraising fee structure for the 2017/2018 season.  The upfront fundraising fee is $125 if you have one skater, $100 for each skater if you have 2 skaters, and $75 for each skater if you have 3 or more skaters. To add flexibility, you now have the ability to earn credit toward the fundraising fee in whole or part, depending on your time and level of participation.

For example, our first fundraiser will be selling holiday wreaths.  For every wreath sold, a $3 credit applies toward your fundraising fee obligation.  We are working with Sports Engine to iron out the details and should have more information soon.

Lastly, we are planning to have our Annual Kick-Off Meeting in early October where the Board Members will be there to answer any questions, and keep you apprised of new and exciting things happening with LAYHA!  Thank you for your ongoing support of our youth hockey association.  See you at the rink!

Go Red Wings!

Layha Divisions - Levels

Based on USA Hockey Association ADM (American Development Model) age-appropriate hockey to determine which division level a child will play.

According to ADM-

HOW DOES THE ADM LOOK? At the younger age levels, it looks like fun and constant motion in small spaces. The ADM encourages station-based practices, small-area games and cross-ice competition to deliver more repetitions, more puck touches and more skill development per hour of ice time. It provides the most efficient, most engaging development path for children, keeping them both in the game and on a path toward their full potential.

The ADM encourages a 3:1 practice-to-game ratio at these younger levels, while also making hockey more family-friendly. The ADM emphasizes development at your local rink in mite (8U), squirt (10U) and peewee (12U) hockey.

This emphasis helps children benefit from more skill development and less burnout. As children progress in age, the ADM progresses with them, providing age-specific programming designed to prepare, propel and polish, with curriculum proven to produce Olympic- and NHL-caliber players.

The Layha Divisions are as follows:
